About the project

Our team saw a business opportunity for Walmart to expand market share towards Gen-Z as they come of age in order to capture their estimated buying power of $143 billion.

Young shoppers value curated, seamless experiences, often favoring brands like Target and Whole Foods for their efficient, personalized store layouts. To elevate Walmart's in-store shopping experience, we designed a digital solution to revolutionize store navigation and streamline discovery.

The solution

FastTrack and SmartTrack are innovative features designed to streamline in-store shopping at Walmart. FastTrack generates the quickest path to complete a shopping list, while SmartTrack optimizes routes for perishables, ensuring efficient navigation.

These tools, paired with an enhanced app interface offering seamless access to store services and personalized tools, empower users to plan trips with live timers and accurate time estimates. By simplifying store navigation and enhancing trip predictability, these features deliver a tailored, time-saving shopping experience.

Results

This project positions Walmart to capture a larger share of the Gen-Z market by addressing their preferences for digital-first, seamless shopping experiences. By enhancing the Walmart App with features like FastTrack and SmartTrack, Walmart can appeal to tech-savvy young shoppers while reinforcing its reputation as a low-cost, convenient option.

These innovations could not only increase engagement with Gen-Z but also drive long-term loyalty, helping Walmart remain competitive as consumer behaviors continue to shift toward digital and personalized retail experiences.
